PRODUCT PERFORMANCE AND TESTING INFORMATION

Mulch Film Product Performance

Carbon Nurture mulch film has been rigorously tested by independent laboratories, universities, and our team both in the laboratory and farm settings.  Based on extensive scientific testing of our film and similar biodegradable materials, we expect the film to naturally break down in the soil within two years or less under typical North American farming conditions. During this process, it transforms into biomass, soil organic carbon, water, and carbon dioxide—returning safely to the earth.
Because soil and climate conditions can vary widely, the rate of biodegradation may differ from field to field. Factors such as temperature, moisture, microbial activity, and soil management practices can influence how quickly the material breaks down.
We are currently undergoing additional university and farm trials across various climates, soil, and weather conditions. These studies help us better understand how the film behaves in real agricultural settings and under different environmental settings. We recommend you consult Carbon Nurture team to determine which product will best suit your needs.
All available testing to date indicates that our mulch film is non-toxic to soil and plants and may even help improve long-term soil health.
Our products match or exceed the physical performance of traditional polyethylene mulch films and are fully compatible with existing laying practices and equipment, making them a seamless, high-performing replacement for conventional plastic mulch.

The Company's Products have passed the following published standards and tests:

Physical Properties Testing

Our films exceed the standards for physical properties of mulch films, including tensile strength, elongolation, optical transmission, and dart impact.

Heavy Metals Analysis

Free from harmful heavy metals such as Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, and Hg per EN ISO 17294-2 and EPA40.

Chemical Modification by Oxidation

Demonstrates achievement of required carbonyl index and molecular weight for biodegradation.

Eco-Toxicity Tests

Validated for plant and organism safety across multiple trophic levels.

Field Testing

31 months trials at real world farms. Additional trials underway across varying soil and climate conditions.

Soil Carbon Retention

Improves the soil’s ability to retain soil organic carbon compared to traditional polyethylene & compostable films.
